Lucy's career started on the stage, before working as a Sales Director in London and Sydney then becoming a business and positive psychologist. Working as an executive coach, consultant and trainer, Lucy has helped over 12,000 individuals and teams across Europe at crucial transition points in their leadership journey and today she is considered to be one of the UK’s foremost coaches for senior business people. An accredited Master Practitioner coach through European Mentoring and Coaching Council, Lucy also trains other coaches and psychologists across Europe.
Lucy holds an MSc in Applied Positive Psychology, gained her PhD from the University of Liverpool and is a Senior Lecturer at the University of East London. She now specialises in developing professional women for leadership positions and her ‘women into leadership’ programmes have achieved startling results, with some 70% of participants stepping up into new roles.
Lucy is the author of 3 business books, the third was published by Practical Inspiration Publishing earlier this month. It is called Revolting Women: why women walk out (and what to do about it) and it explores the exodus of older female talent from the workplace and how employers can better retain them.
They call gendered ageism a double whammy, which is that you are female and you're old.
I actually think it's a triple whammy which is you're female, you're old, and you don't want a full time career.
Stereotypically, men have a full-time linear career, get to midlife and go ‘okay, I'm turning off’.
Women who have had zigzag, squiggly careers stop, pause, and then go, ‘woohoo, what next?’ And they're ready to be brilliant in a different way.
A great thing to do that some companies are doing is conducting midlife check-ins, recognizing that this is a unique age and you can lose your women quite suddenly and you haven't catered for it.
