About this episode
I chat with Mark Arian, CEO of Korn Ferry Consulting globally, about some of the big factors affecting how employees feel about their jobs today and what they want from their relationship with their employer. This was one of a number of conversations I’m having with CEOs, COOs and CPOs as I’m researching and writing my second book
People Glue: hold on to your best people by setting them free.
Mark and I dip in to research that Korn Ferry published earlier this year to explore whether modern employees prioritize flexibility, autonomy, and career development over traditional job security. We also chat about how a skills-based approach to hiring and developing people can cause a more transactional relationship rather than one founded on mutual commitment and long-term loyalty. Mark and I know each other from when Mark was our practice leader at the consulting firm Towers Watson (now WillisTowersWatson) several years ago, and he has since held leadership roles at Aon and EY before leading Korn Ferry Consulting.
That sense of purpose, feeling part of a community, feeling part of and tied to an organization's purpose, feeling a trust in leadership, creates tremendous amount of expendable energy that can be put to work on behalf of the organisation.
There are ways to tie individuals to the organization and meet their agenda of growth and career without them becoming job nomads.
The people who are high performers deliver as much as four or more times the value than your average performer.
